Nganmarriyanga (Palumpa) Store transferred back to community ownership

On 1 February 2013, an agreement struck between the Directors of Mutchirr Corporation Limited on behalf of the community of Nganmarriyanga with the Victoria Daly Shire Council saw the community store finally transferred back to community ownership.

The transfer ends years of frustration for members of the community, angry that the introduction of the Victory Daly Shire Council on 1 July 2008 also meant that their local store was now held by that organisation as one of its assets.

After years of negotiations between Mutchirr Corporation Limited and the Victoria Daly Shire Council, instructions were finally given by the Council to facilitate the transfer of the Nganmarriyanga Store to a suitably licensed community-based corporation. Importantly, the Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation will continue to manage the store post completion of the transfer process.

Throughout the negotiations and transfer process Bowden McCormack acted on behalf of Mutchirr Corporation Limited  and the eventual store-holding entity, and was pleased to be able to assist the Chairman, Jack Wodidj, and the Directors of Mutchirr Corporation Limited, in their achievement of a successful outcome.  Bowden McCormack now looks forward to working with the Chairman and Directors as they grow their store business and seek to explore and take advantage of other opportunities within the community.
