Michael Vailas practices in a range of different areas within our firm, and in doing so is assisting a range of clients from government bodies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entities, private corporations, Land Councils, community groups, clubs and associations, as well as private individuals.

Michael, who is a Darwin local, completed his combined Bachelor of Laws/ Bachelor of Information Technology through Charles Darwin University in 2014. He then completed his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice through the Australian National University (ANU) in 2015 and has continued his study with ANU through the Masters in Legal Practice program, specialising in combining technology and the law. Michael has independently sought and completed further studies in E-Discovery, Smart Contracts, Ethical Hacking, E-Signatures and anything else that combines his passion of law and IT.

Michael was admitted to the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in March 2016. In 2017 he was then selected as the Associate to the Honourable Justice Peter Barr of the Supreme Court. This gave Michael numerous roles and duties including: liaising with court staff/counsel/government departments and the public, effective and efficient conduct of the court, preparing technology reports, and guidance to IT related matters and case management systems.

In early 2018, Michael joined our team of solicitors and is proud to represent our firm’s clients throughout the Northern Territory.

Michael’s practice focusses on:-
– Commercial transactions including contractual negotiation and drafting.
– Unfair dismissal claims, general protections disputes and contractual advice.
– Intellectual Property matters including trade mark applications and IP licences.
– Estate Administration and super death benefits.
